There’s something magical about photographing puppies. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to capture a sweet English springer spaniel's first professional photos. The experience was both fun and challenging, but ultimately, it resulted in some of the most precious photos I’ve ever taken.
Before the shoot, I spent a considerable amount of time planning the details. While my studio is puppy and adult dog safe, I knew I wanted to bring in soft, puppy-safe props, so chose elements that would compliment the puppy and ensure his comfort and safety throughout the session. Newborn puppies sleep a lot, but 8 week old puppies can be full of energy and naptime not a guarantee. I planned to capture this guy's personality with the hope that maybe he'd tire himself out...that's when the little extra magic happened.
When the puppy sleeps, the photographer and his dog mama play!
Dudley was wonderful in front of the camera, showing off his sit and stay and just being his adorable self! But when he fell into a puppy sleep, we had so much fun getting creative to give his mama the newborn photography style photos she was hoping for!
